• It was inaugrated by Union Textile Minister Smriti Zubin Irani (along with Chief Minister of Meghalaya Dr. Mukul Sangma) at Hatisil near Ampati.
• It is estimated to generate direct employment for 1,200 people.
• रु 14.26 crore has been reserved for this under the North East Region Textiles promotion scheme (NERTPS) of the Ministry of textiles.

(2) "Task Force" for upcomig three olympics

• Ministry of youth affairs and sports constituted a Task Force for preparing action plan for next three Olympic games viz., 2020, 2024, 2028.
• The members of the committee are :

•  The terms of reference among others is to suggest a comprehensive action plan including short-term, medium-term and long-term measures for effective participation of Indian sportspersons in the next three Olympic Games.

(3) Miss Universe 2017

Miss Universe 2017

• French model and beauty queen Iris Mittenaere was crowned Miss Universe 2017 in Manila Philippines.
• She is the second Miss Universe from France after Christiane Martel in 1953.
• Raquel Pelssier of Haiti was first runner-up and Andrea Tovar of Colombia as second runner-up.
• Miss Universe 2017, the 65 edition, was held on 30th January 2017.
• Iris is also the third European to take the crown since 2002.

(4) CAG & BCCI

• The Supreme court appointed former Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) Vinod Rai to head the administrative commettee of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

(5) H1-B visa bill

• The H1-B visa introduced in the US house of representatives, among other things, seeks to more than double the minimum salary of H1-B visa holders to $130,000.
• The bill would require that employers first offer a vacant position to an equally or better qualified American worker before seeking an H1B or L1   visa holder.
• In 2015, President Barack Obama's administration permitted spouses of H1B visa-holders to get permission to work.
• Nearly 86% of H1-B visas for Computer-related jobs and 46.5% for engineering positions were given to Indians.
• The US issues 85,000 H1-B visas every year, of which 20,000 are for master's degree holders from US Universities.

• The 31st edition of Surajkund International Crafts Mela commenced in Faridabad, Haryana.
• It was inaugurated by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
• Egypt is the partner country.
• Jharkhand is the theme state.
• Dena Bank is the official banking partner.

(7) Donations to Political parties

• Finance Minister Arun Jaitely announced that the maximum donations in cash to political parties have been reduced to रु 2,000.
• Earlier political parties could receive cash donations to the tune of रु 20,000.
• Any donations above रु 2,000 would have to be made either through cheques or through digital means.
